Can I upload a suppression list?
If you have a list of emails with less than 3,000 contacts that you would like to suppress, Pinpointe support can enable the suppression list feature for your account upon request via email at @support@pinpointe.com.
In your email to Pinpointe support, include the following:
- Your account ID
- The number of contacts to suppress
If you have over 3,000 suppression contacts or if you are an Enterprise Edition customer, send your request to support@pinpointe.com where we will provide more specific instructions for managing your suppressions.
Note for Enterprise Edition Customers: If you want to suppress contacts / domains across all your databases for the entire Enterprise Account, please submit a 1-column csv file of the addresses / domains (@domain.com) to Pinpointe support and request they be added to your accounts Global Suppression List.
After suppression lists have been enabled by Pinpointe, you can upload your banned/suppressed emails.
Adding Suppression Lists:
On the left Navigation menu, click Contacts -> Manage Suppressions (Fig 1)

Now, we're on the Suppression Email/Domain page where you are given two options:
- I want to type the email address/domains to suppress into a text box: Lets users manually type or paste in a list of email address or domains they want to suppress
- I want to upload a file that contains the email addresses/domains to suppress: Lets users upload a .CSV file containing the addresses or domains they want to suppress
Click one of the options (Fig 4).

When you're done typing in the emails and domains, click on the "Save" button. You'll be taken to a screen with a success message if you've done this correctly or an error message if there are conflicts (Fig 6).

Now when a campaign is sent, Pinpointe will check your banned users list and remove any emails from the list of recipients at the time you schedule an email campaign. These are calculated real-time, just before the email is ready to send.
Note: Suppression lists are managed on a per-list basis. For example, if you have a list of emails to suppress from all lists, you will need to upload the suppression list to all lists.
When I import my list, why are some contacts on a global block list?
Pinpointe maintains a global ban list of contacts who have complained about receiving spam in the past or who have requested to be removed from any email correspondence. These contacts will not be added to your email list when you import your contacts.
What is a Global Block List?
A Global Block List is a list generated and maintained by Pinpointe. We've created this list through the analysis of key delivery data accumulated from all customers in our email database. We check all lists uploaded to protect our customers against spammers and to improve delivery by eliminating email addresses with the following:
- Known Hard Bounce Email Addresses: These occur when the email address you are sending to does not exist. This could be a result of poor data entry (typos) or invalid characters in these email addresses, or they may actually no longer exist.
- Known Spam Complainers: These are the people who hit the spam complaint button on most of the emails they receive, even the messages they signed up to receive.
- Known Honeypots/Spamtraps – Spamtraps come in two different varieties:
- Email accounts that are not linked to or accessed by humans. Since no actual person uses the account, it is known that no one used the opt-in process for an email delivery program. Those email accounts have been abandoned and no longer used. ISPs and blacklist companies will use these accounts and block you if emails are being sent to this type of email address. Their justification is that if they aren’t active anymore, then they should not still be receiving emails.
- A spam trap is also known as an email "honeypot." In its simplest form, this is an email address that is used to collect spam emails. Unlike spam filters, however, it doesn't try to recognize what is spam and what isn’t. Instead, it just assumes that everything it receives is spam. It can do this because the email address is never used by a real human and has never been subscribed to receive any email. Therefore, anything that gets sent to the address must be unsolicited email. Repercussions of sending an email campaign to a spam trap are quick and severe, ending with ISPs completely blocking the sender’s IP address. This makes email deliverability nearly impossible until you remove these spam traps from your email list!
